As a former two-term selectman and over 40-year resident to the town of Hampton, NH, the following is grossly unacceptable:
Number 1. Outrageous Comcast monthly bills while the town profits on the franchise fees.
Point of Information, the balance of the Cable Fund should be disclosed in Finance Director Pulliam's report tonight.
Number 2. Acceptance of sizeable federal grants from FEMA regarding emergency relief, ARPA regarding pandemic relief, and HOP regarding housing opportunities & relief.
Point of Information, these types of grants come with federal stipulations from the unelected that are a direct threat Hampton's local sovereignty.
SCOTUS has recently ruled that unelected federal agencies do NOT have explicit authority to regulate.
Number 3. The lack of ownership by the state, when it comes to state owned property and the lack of leadership by the Hampton board of selectmen regarding compensation in the form of dollars back to Hampton on an annual basis for police, fire, and public works labor and time. Public nuisances on state property, including the north beach area, should be policed by state officials. If staffing is the issue, then compensation is due to Hampton for these costs, along with fire and public works costs.
Point of information, an additional $1-2 million from state revenues annually back from Concord to Hampton would be sufficient to cover town of PD, FD, and PW costs currently funded through the town of Hampton budget.
The 1933 document between the town and state regulating state property operations needs to be amended to reflect current times and situations.
Number 4. Hampton Harbor bridge construction mid-July during a heatwave creating unnecessary roadblocks for any first responder vehicles that may need to cross the bridge.
Point of information, the state of NH (DOT) should be found liable for any damage to, removal of, or repositioning of either the Hampton sewer line or the Aquarion water line, both of which are in close proximity to the construction project. Any costs related to these lines should not be afforded by neither Hampton tax nor rate payers.
In 2021 Hampton Selectman Regina Barnes told US Senator Shaheen exactly that. https://www.seacoastonline.com/story/news/local/2021/09/16/no-1-red-listed-bridge-nh-shaheen-touts-need-pass-infrastructure-bill-hampton-nh/8363883002/
Number 5. The fact that Winnacunnet Road from the Landing Road intersection east to Ocean Boulevard is not "Local Traffic Only" from Memorial Day through the Seafood Festival.
Point of information, there is no reason why daily beach bound tourists should have access to Hampton Beach via Winnacunnet Road. There are plenty of other routes available,
SELECTMEN ARE PUBLIC SERVANTS AND WORK FOR RESIDENTS & TAXPAYERS, NOT SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS, NOT UNIONS, NOT NON-PROFITS, NOT TOWN EMPLOYEES AND NOT UNELECTED STATE BUREACRATS.
PLEASE DO YOUR JOB.
