New Hampshire allows “undeclared” voters to walk into a Republican primary, choose a GOP ballot on Election Day, vote in it — and then switch right back to undeclared before leaving.
That means people who won’t commit to the Republican Party can still help choose its nominees.
If you believe political parties should select their own candidates, this system undermines that principle. A party primary is supposed to reflect the will of that party’s voters — not temporary participants who refuse formal affiliation.
There have been lawsuits to close this loophole and require voters to declare party affiliation in advance if they want to participate in a primary. Those efforts failed do to a corrupted system.
This isn’t about restricting anyone’s right to vote in a general election. It’s about whether a political party has the right to choose its own nominees without outside influence.
If you can’t commit to the Republican Party, why should you help decide its candidates?
New Hampshire voters deserve transparency, fairness, and a primary system that respects party integrity.
