A single federal judge has effectively overturned legislation passed by New Hampshire's elected representatives that required documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration, reopening the affidavit pathway for voters who cannot provide that documentation. Whether people support or oppose that ruling, one fact should unite everyone: the public deserves complete transparency about how the State verifies that every counted ballot was cast by a qualified citizen elector.

The June 5, 2026, Right-to-Know request demands answers, not assumptions. If the State is going to certify elections under a system that relies on citizenship affidavits, then it should be able to clearly produce the records showing exactly how those affidavits are verified, tracked, audited, reconciled, and connected to ballots that are ultimately counted and certified. It should also be able to show the chain of custody for ballots, the audit procedures for tabulation machines, and the legal authority supporting certification under the current process.

Election integrity is not a partisan issue—it is the foundation of public trust. If New Hampshire has robust verification procedures, it should welcome the opportunity to show the public exactly how they work. If it cannot produce records demonstrating those procedures, the public has every right to ask why. Transparency is not optional; it is the price of public confidence. When duly enacted state law is displaced by a federal court order, the burden on government to explain and document its verification process becomes even greater. Citizens deserve proof, not promises, that every lawful vote is protected and every election is worthy of the public's trust.
